Our Mission
Hunters Woods Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences is proud to serve the Reston, Virginia community as a Fairfax County school. The students and staff at Hunters Woods establish a collaborative educational community with a focus on innovations in teaching and learning. Emphasis is placed on the awakening of intellectual curiosity through experience based programs. Learning takes place in an encouraging atmosphere where students generate and test their own hypotheses and where there are no limits to the students' learning potential.

Hunters Woods Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences is a proud neighbor in the Greater-Reston community. Our dedicated and active PTA provides students, staff and parents with support throughout the year. Mission: Empower all learners for success. Vision: To be a model of collaborative instruction infused by the arts and sciences. Core Values: advocacy, safety, confidence, respect, honesty, compassion, responsibility, curiosity, differentiation and having a global worldview Students participating in the arts and sciences magnet program, neighborhood students and those enrolled in the Level IV Advanced Academic Program make up our Hunters Woods community of "Mighty Mustangs". ALL of our students benefit from and have access to the enriched curriculum and enhanced environment of the school. Through Responsive Instruction, Responsive Classroom strategies, arts integration, STEAM and Project Based Learning (PBL) opportunities we work to promote a collaborative family of learners, focusing on innovations in teaching and learning. The HWES PTA is a group of parent volunteers dedicated to collaborating with teachers and community to enhance the educational experience for all children at HWES. We are focused on developing programs and activities that support our children’s educational success, health, and well-being through strong family and community engagement. Our Executive Board and Committee Chairs put in countless hours to assist the administration in making our school environment one of the best in FCPS.
