About Fort Belvoir Elementary School
School Summary
Fort Belvoir Elementary School, A Fairfax County Public School (FCPS), opened its doors in the Fall of 1998. In the summer of 2014, FCPS was awarded $23,798,603 in grant federal funds by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) which was combined with $5,949,651 in non-federal matching funds to construct a new elementary school facility at the U.S. Army installation at Fort Belvoir and to renovate the existing elementary school on the base. The grant funded renovations at our existing school site (Fort Belvoir Primary School), as well as construction of a new school building (Fort Belvoir Upper School) outfitted as a modern school with flexible learning spaces. Fort Belvoir Upper School's projected completion is Fall 2016. Fort Belvoir Elementary School's expansion across a campus with the addition of a new school building will create a total available instructional capacity for approximately 1,594 students and measure 228,254 square feet in size, making it the largest elementary school within FCPS and the Washington Metropolitan area. The expansion will allow FCPS to address both current and future capacity needs to include enrollment growth. Funding for the grant was provided under the DOD's Public Schools on Military Installations Program. Priority consideration was given to military installations with schools having the most serious capacity or facility condition deficiencies.
A great source of pride is our work to serve our community in developing our 21st century learners through STEAM education. As a fortunate recipient of two DODEA Grants for STEAM Education, we look forward to continuing to offer inquiry-based, hands-on STEAM lessons to our students. Additionally, we are excited to collaborate with the staff of Fort Belvoir Primary to best serve our community of learners
