Churchill Road School is committed to working together with students and parents toward the common goal of ensuring that all students receive an excellent and appropriate education. We envision:
Churchill Road School empowers our students to meet high academic standards, display exemplary citizenship, and promote global and social awareness of the world around them.
The Churchill Road Elementary School staff and community share high expectations for student achievement in all areas. It is our commitment to provide students with a motivating, rigorous instructional program that stimulates and encourages intellectual curiosity and instills a life-long love of learning. We also strive to foster respect for others, an appreciation of our community and world around us, and an understanding of each individual's role as a responsible, productive citizen in a global community.
Staff members understand and value the diverse backgrounds and abilities of all students and work collaboratively with their colleagues to develop exciting learning experiences. Students participate in dynamic instruction that is enhanced and optimized through techniques such as inquiry learning, integrated arts programs, field trips, assemblies and guest speakers and environmental education.
The school staff themselves are lifelong learners. They serve in numerous school, county and state committees and organizations, often in leadership roles. As educators, they are committed to their own development as professionals. They take part in classes and conferences throughout the year. Many staff members are presenters at various professional development sessions. Their participation in these events helps insure that cutting edge instruction is provided to the children through researched-based best practices.
Understanding that children learn best when they have effective academic and social skills, Churchill Road's staff and administrators designed a school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports system (PBIS).
To aid and enhance their daily learning and in preparation for life beyond FCPS schools, students are taught to responsibly and effectively use technology in their daily studies. Every student at Churchill Road is assigned a laptop, to ensure easy access for investigation, programing, and word processing.
The Churchill Road community believes that participating in community service helps to instill an understanding in children that they can positively impact the well-being of the world around them. Students have many opportunities to take part in community service endeavors throughout the school year. Students look forward to annual fundraising events such as Jump Rope for Heart and Walk for the Homeless. The PTA also sponsors many events that support food banks, homeless shelters, and our buddy school.
Environmental education is an important aspect of Churchill Road because it provides opportunities to apply academic skills to real-life circumstances, employs and enhances critical thinking skills, and instills important life skills. The many thematic gardens around the school campus serve as excellent outdoor classrooms for integration of citizenship skills and application of core curricula. All students compost, recycle and upcyle, as well as plant and grow food, herbs and flowers.
