Bush Hill Elementary has proudly served the Alexandria, Virginia community since 1954. After completing 6th grade at Bush Hill, our students continue their education at Twain Middle School and Edison High School.
Bush Hill is an inclusive and diverse school community. Our mission is to educate students in a challenging, engaging, and fun environment while we empower students to believe in themselves and be confident self-advocates. We foster an environment where students can collaborate to develop innovative ideas and we inspire students to dream and create positive change in the world.
Our pre-school through 6th grade students are taught by a talented staff who care about each of their students. Our staff members are life-long learners who believe in collaborative teamwork to ensure that students are provided with the best instructional practices and outstanding learning opportunities. Our collaborative learning teams continuously review student performance to identify strengths and opportunities for growth for each individual student. Together, teachers then utilize this information to develop instructional plans to challenge each student.
Bush Hill has a proud history of serving students with special needs. Previously the school housed the county's Physical Disabilities Center. Now, Bush Hill provides services to students with a variety of disabilities. Our Intellectual Disabilities (ID/IDS) Program serves students in grades K-6 from many schools in our surrounding area. Our Preschool Autism Classroom (PAC) and our non-categorical preschool classroom allows us to support children ages 2-5 with important skills which will help them to be successful when they begin elementary school. In 2018, Bush Hill was named as a Special Olympics Unified Champion Banner School in recognition of the school's work to provide an inclusive school community.
Bush Hill opened a Level IV Advanced Academic Center in the fall of 2018. This program currently serves students from the Edison Pyramid who are Level IV eligible in grade 3. Each year, one grade level will be added to the program until the Level IV program is fully implemented in grades 3-6.
Our school celebrates its diverse community each day through our Morning Meetings which provides an opportunity for students to learn about their peers and build relationships. We also celebrate our school community during monthly whole-school Morning Meetings, Inclusion Week, and other events throughout the year.
We believe that partnerships with parents are key to student success. Our PTA promotes a close relationship between school and home, encouraging parents to volunteer their time and talents to support our school mission and vision.
